will mi box s output sound via usb

before i go ahead and purchase a mi box s. i would like to know if i connect a usb soundbar to a mi box will it be able to output the sound through the soundbar. i need it for a project and this usb soundbar is perfect size for fitment. only downside is it is only has a usb connection.

please could someone let me know before i go ahead and purchase the android box

I use a USB sound bar with my mi box s. It will output sound if the box is running androidtv 9. It's nice that the remote can control the volume of the USB sound bar (no having to work with two different volume settings is nice) but it breaks the microphone on the remote for voice searching and Google assistant.

The only workaround I have found is to reboot the mi box with the USB unplugged and then plug the sound bar in once the mi box has finished startng up. Then the sound bar and microphone in thr remote will both work untill the device gets turned off / sleeps; at which point the microphone stops working and another unplug, reboot and re-plug-in is required. What a faff!

Thx for starting this thread! I never realize I could stream music to my speaker this way. By the way I used KEF X300a with built in DAC, so, it’s significantly improve compared to 3.5mm audio output.
