I've had a ring for several years however, amazon's unwillingness to support android tv and privacy concerns has me looking for a non subscription alternative that I can use with my shield. Anyone have any suggestions?

Wyze - They can interface with my amazon devices or Nest devices (the Nest hub). To be honest I rarely use that but instead use tinycampro on my android tv boxes. That allows you to see all of you cameras at the same time and you can click on one of them if you want full screen.
I use a RCA DoorBell since 2018.
SDCard if needed or you can use BlueIris (Windows) or SecuritySpy (macOS) or Shinobi(linux) to record directly from RSTP Stream. I use TinyCam or VLC to see the feed on my Shield TV.
Check out Wyze reviews on youtube or else go with Nest.
Nest is owned by Google so you get the best out the box functionality, "hey Google show me front door" turns on TV and shows camera (I use a shield with Google mini but same principal)
