I want to play 4k movies (mainly mkv) from external hdd on tv became my tv is hit or miss when playing them (samsung tizen os) Which box should i get. I only want to spend $50-100 since i will only be using it for my hdd and not for anything else.

Xiaomi Mi Box S can playback 4K just fine from a connected hard drive.
A cheap option may be to setup a plex server on a pc and stream it to your tv.
