4 years later: Google is planning to rebrand Google TV to... Nest TV.

watchyirc

jesus christ. i really love the ecosystem but fuck. come on guys. quit smoking crack.

BronsonRedfin

Should we change the sub name now

_CitationX

r/googletv, we just wanna talk...

Sakuga

For the love of Christ do they focus on the wrong things...the name doesn’t matter just focus on functionality and ecosystem!

Hey google, instead of worrying about names how about you fix the shit you broke (Nests Android TV app).

flcinusa

Finally the circle is complete

xvidragon2

Wasn't it called googletv back in day?

CuvisTheConqueror

That's one way of solving the problem of non-Android TV Android boxes causing market confusion, I suppose.

Tired8281

Has to get at least one rebranding done before they're allowed to axe it entirely. It's an internal policy.

Re-re-brand ftfy

ChrebetEighty

Google product names continue to be the hardest to search for. Always two extremely popular names like Google and TV, Home, Music, etc. You would think a search company would know how to stand out.

SSJStarwind16

I already have a Google TV. It's a paperweight or door stop depending on my mood.

haojiezhu

I remember I almost bought a Logitech Revue when it was on fire sale.

jm9843

Android TV has next to no brand equity so who really cares? Still funny though, about 10 years on from the Logitech Revue with Google TV .

keungy

Google has fallen way off the pace as an innovator. Sad!

faisalthe01

I reckon their Android TV engineers are working from home

ioppro

Next they will also rebrand YouTube TV to Google TV.

napes22

The horror!

werdmouf

Seriously??

Cash091

Meh... The name doesn't bother me. They can change it weekly for all I care. As long as I have decent app support and it works, I'm happy.

Gotta keep the news cycle fresh! They should just do what Apple does and just release an AndroidTV box that's gold plated or something. Sell it for $2,000 and get people talking about it.

malarie

AndroidTV on a Sony TV sucks. I paid 2000$ in 2017 and my model is already too old to receive OS updates. Im stuck at Oreo forever.

curiousaugment99

I don't get it. What's the benefit in renaming established product lines? They did it with Wear OS and now Android TV. As if they don't want the name Android anymore with devices other than the phones.

Pete6

At least this will distinguish it from generic Android "TV" boxes.

sarapnst

It's basically Android! "Google TV" makes no sense to me other than copying Apple's naming.

faisalthe01

Could anyone do that Alright Gentlemen web need a new idea meme for this article please

Cyclical-DingDongs

I actually approve of this.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I got an Android TV and found so many android apps were not natively supported ... I'm not talking crazy shit either, I'm talking things like Firefox ... A major let down.

A name change would manage expectations ... Call it Google TV and step away from claiming to be an Android device, when in practise it is really just Android Compatible: Kinda.
