Sony X950H vs Hisense H8G

by AndroidPurity

Both brand new 2020 Android TV's just released. I know these are 2 different tiers of prices in TV's but hear me out.

Originally I was planning on getting the new Sony 55 inch X950H on Black Friday for $1,099 (that's how much X950G was last black Friday when I bought it). This would replace my old Sony X830C which has not aged well with no dimming zones, and no HDR support, and a old processor that makes navigating stuttery and slow.

However after eyeing the new Hisense 55 inch H8G and seeing it has just now dipped as low as $455 on Amazon, it made me wonder what am I really gaining for $645 more with the X950H????

The only things I can determine I am gaining with the X950H from Sony is about 300-400 nits higher of peak brightness, and a better sound system with 4 speakers built into the TV, and a 120hz native panel (which I question whether it really makes a difference since all streamed content is 60 fps or less). Plus maybe arguably a TV from a more reputable reliable company (Sony).

On the other hand gaining Quantum Dot and HDR10+ on the cheaper H8G, and having every other feature that the Sony X950H base. Local dimming zones, HDR, Dolby Vision, 4 HDMI ports, and so on.

Am I missing something? Is there anything else the Sony X950H has over the H8G? If that's it, that Might be worth paying $350-$450 more, but $645 more (at the black Friday price) seems to be pushing it if those are the only differences.

the last hisense tv i bought, the colors were kind of over saturated. It was the cheaper model though. If this quantum dot model has better color accuracy, then go for it

Considering no other responses yet, I guess no one else really knows any other benefit either lol.

I did actually think of 1 other the Sony X950H has. It supports Airplay with iPhones and iPads. Considering I might get the iPhone 12 Pro as a secondary phone this is another point.

There are more benefits going to with Hisense.

If you're looking at a secondary TV since you already have an X950G then I would say skip both of those and get the TCL 55R613 from Costco for $399 . This is the same as the R617 without the voice remote. The TCL 6-series is a better option than the Hisense H8 series. The TCL will have higher peak brightness, higher native contrast ration, better motion handling, more dimming zones and a smoother interface thanks to the low impact Roku OS. The only advantage the Hisense will have is a quantum dot panel with a slightly wider color gamut.

We bought the H8 65 inch Hisense model last Black Friday for super cheap and I'll say the picture and sound are fine (not great but good). The real problem is Android TV needs good hardware to run well (along with apps such as Hulu and Disney+) and this tv doesn't have good hardware. It so slow that I attached a 4K fire stick and now use that instead of the Android TV. The internals are just garbage even with a wired connection. Buy this tv for the screen and nothing else.
