Impressions of the Tivo Stream 4k

by pawdog

After a few hours of tests, my initial impression is, I'm impressed. My expectation was simply for a better device than the Mibox S and it easily met that expectation. The device feels somehow more powerful, more satisfying to navigate around. It could be because the remote is so good. Whatever bump in processor speed the Tivo has is making a difference between the two.

The major issues I've seen so far, Plex and Emby both exhibit a black flashing during playback. Emby will not pass-through any surround sound audio. Vudu, Fandango Now, Movies Anywhere apps do not support 4K HDR on the device. All this seems like stuff that app updates can fix.

I think this device has great potential as a mid-level Android TV device. It's all about support of course.

We’re so glad you’re enjoying the device. Thanks for the feedback. We have work to do of course, but hearing positive news is nice to know folks are enjoying it

Yea, so far I really like it. I like having all of my services available in one central location. No more switching between Chrome cast and Fire Stick. I just hope they integrate a different live tv service with the guide. I don't have anything against Sling but not having local channels won't cut it for me.
