Streaming 4K movies lag

by filoppan

Hello Everyone,

I have a PC connected with 1Gbit Ethernet on my router and an Amazon Fire Stick TV 4K connected on my TV.

The PC is an old one, with an intel i7-3770 CPU, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro.

When I try to stream any HD movie, I have no issues.

But when I try to stream 4K movies, or even 1080 (but with large filesize) I get a huge lag.

While playing these movies, I don't see any huge load on my CPu neither on my Network.

I should mention that I am using Kodi 18 on my Amazon Fire Stick.

Can you please, let me know why I get these delays and if you know any way to solve my issue?

Many many thanks for an answer.

Not sure if you can connect a keyboard to the firestick or use a remote like Yatse to control Kodi..

In Kodi you need to press CTRL+SHIFT+O to see the Codec Info 2 screen while video is playing. You can see the bitrate of the video and audio throughput. It will also show you skips and drops.

You might have to edit your advancedsettings.xml to set the cache in Kodi.

Stop using WiFi is the solution.

Get the 480Mbps Ethernet Adapter in the Link found over here:

Try playing one of those 4K movies directly (just copy one locally). It seems that your CPU is a bit old for playing 4K. It also matters if those are using HEVC (H265) or not. For instance, I am playing 4K on my CoreElec N2 via the wired network. They work well almost every time (from time to time I get hiccups, but it may be because of the network). If you are trying to use WiFi to stream, this may be the issue. Try using a good 5 Ghz router.

i have probelms with my 4k firestick too on 1gbps internet and my router is a very good one from unifi, i have no problems streaming on my other devices but once i get the firestick going, nothing but problems. I chock it up to the firestick being trash.

ive recently got a hold of a chromecast ultra and its played everything ive thrown at it, high bit rate 4k hrd movies included.

Is it choppy right away or does it only happen on some scenes?

What app are you using to share it from your pc to the fire stick?

Don't understand why you mean by delays. You mean just starting initial playback? After the delay does it play fine? If the Fire Stick 4k on WiFi I would not expect it to handle 4K remuxes. I've never had luck without constant buffering.

So the files never actually play. That suggests a severe lack of bandwidth but it shouldn't be that bad on any device. Wish I could help.
