Subtitles download problem in VLC for Android

by vanonact

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing this problem about subtitles on VLC on my Android TV while playing a movie from an external HDD connected via USB.

When I choose "download subtitles" VLC lists them according to my language preferences successfully. Then I choose one of them. The little revolving circle appears for a brief moment so one thinks it downloads the selected subtitle but then there is nothing there. I can't find the subtitle in the native "subtitles" folder or in the folder in ext.HDD in which the movie file is. Earlier there was no problem with this process.

Any solution would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

I asked this couple of weeks ago and someone said it's probably because OpenSubtitles requiring to log in, and VLC not having that option in current build. The way I bypass that is just download the subs manually and add it to the moviefolders.. Then in VLC you can choose it instead of downloading it..

Quick tip: You can easily stream videos over your home network to VLC Android TV. Just make the folder with your videos on pc a "shared folder", and in VLC somewhere in the bottom you can look in your local network.

OpenSubtitles requires a log in I believe. I have usually just downloaded the subtitles myself and added to folder with the movie. Also I have to say I have the same tv as you and find MX Player much better then VLC, it plays 4k hdr better then VLC and also can adjust subtitle appearance, size and colour. Handy when trying to limit any blooming caused by the subtitles
