MiBox S - Automatic framerate with Plex / wrong cable?

by Animosity-IsNoAmity

Hi there

I just bought a MiBox S. There is this setting under "Display" where it says "automatic refresh rate". If i select it, the MiBox sets itself to "2160 / 30p". First question: Why 30p? Does it depend on the cable, or the TV? And is this a "common" framerate?

Second question: If i start Plex via the PlayStore Plex app, i experience micro-lags. There is a setting in the Plex-in-app-setting which says "auto-adjust framerate". If i select it, i'm no longer able to play content.

My expectation would be that Plex tells my MiBox (based on the actual video-file) which framerate it should use. Is this even possible to achieve?

The Mi Box and Mi Box S have been falsely advertised as a 4K/60p device but in reality it is a 4K/30p one, you can verify this when you play any 4K/60p on Plex, it will always be transcoded, I asked Plex devs about that and they were able to confirm it, they couldn't do anything about it.

As for the cable, if you are using the HDMI cable that came in the Box you shouldn't have any problem.

The Mi Box is the only Amlogic certified Android TV device with auto-frame rate actually working, but if it's not working on your TV there must be something wrong with it, what TV do you have?
