[Tip] Setting Smart YouTube TV App as default for Google assistant and all YouTube links

by klienbottle45

To make smart YouTube tv as the default app one needs to uninstall bundled youtube using adb by:

"adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.youtube.tv"

And now when YouTube is used with Google assistant, one can set the default app.(just disabling the app from settings doesn't work)

It works like a charm. Hope it helps to everyone out there.

Just wondering why does everyone use it over the stock app? I've only ever used it on my old FireTV stick because there wasn't an official app available. What exactly are it's advantages?

In my experience the resolution selection felt a bit hacky and the cast support didn't always work, but apart from that I didn't really notice any differences.

Can someone list the pros and cons of doing this?

This won't make Smart YouTube TV launch via Google Home though, right? That still defaults to the casting shell?

@OP What interface did you use from your PC to the Smart TV? Will a HDMI cable work?

With the new UI for "Google TV" it still asks to install YouTube and doesn't give me prompt to make Smart YouTube TV the default.

Hey I just wanted to ask: What should I do if it doesn't prompt me to decide which app to use for those links? I can't find how to set it as the default in the settings either
