Hulu Live ESPN Quality is Terrible

I've been trying to watch as much of the MLS tournament as I can, but the picture quality is terrible when playing from Android TV.

I have a Shield 2019 and it's wired Ethernet with gigabit FiOS internet.

  • If I play using the native Hulu app on Android TV, it is terrible.
  • If I cast from Hulu to my Shield the picture is great

What's up with that?

Use the ESPN app. The Hulu app is garbage on my Shied but the ESPN works great.

It’s not just ESPN, it’s all live channels on the shield app. I’ve been in contact with their support and they escalated the issue so hopefully someone is looking into it, but basically the live streams don’t kick over to HD. If you chrome cast to the shield you’ll get a better quality stream. It’s a bug with the android tv app.
