Hey everyone, I'm your new community mod! Please ask questions or make suggestions below!

by rk_29

I noticed a while ago that the sub was becoming utterly unbearable due to the sheer lack of moderation, spam, illegit posts and lack of helpful content. Hence, I requested the sub from the admins because the other moderators are inactive. I have been added as a mod but they remain in place for the moment.

I'd just like to outline how I intend to improve and change the community going forward in order to make it a more helpful and informative environment for everyone involved.

New Moderators and Applications

I would like to appoint some new mods to aid in maintaining and improving the community. I have already reached out to a handful of active community members to see if they would be interested in these roles. If you think you would like a shot, please send a modmail and I'll review your profile. Please include a short few sentences on why you are interested in the topic, why you'd be a good fit for the role, and if you have any previous moderation experience.

Removal of Spam and Unwanted Content

It's no secret that the sub has been filled with spam and content about fake "Android TVs" and rather dodgy .apk files. I intend to add posting guidelines with clear info about what this sub is for - discussing and providing helpful information about anything that runs the official Android TV operating system.

A complete and robust set of rules will be added and these will hopefully not be too strict or too lenient on posts. Obviously user suggestions are welcome.

Future Goals

I'd like to look at the success of r/ChromeOS and use it as an example of a goal for this community. It seemingly strikes a good balance and makes it a great place for discussion and learning.

Overall the main goal is to improve the community, and that goal will evolve over time.

Thanks for reading, and please feel free to leave any suggestions/questions/general comments below!

  1. Could you please remove the words "MyGica" and "Mecool" that were blocked as if they were vulgar or heresy?, they are brands with Android TV devices certified by Google, just because they are not Netflix certified doesn't mean they are bad devices, NO company should be discriminated just because the majority of users here (Xiaomi and Nvidia fanboys) hate them, they all deserve respect.
  2. A lot of people make posts about Android boxes or make posts about stuff unrelated to Android TV, they should be removed altogether, but first, they must be informed about the reason to do so.

There is a lot of hate around this subreddit, but I know you can't do anything about it...

Thank you.

Can we get rid of all the whiners who complain because their generic Chinese boxes don't belong here?

Maybe have AutoMod recommend /r/AndroidTVBoxes to them upon posting?

Amen some cleanup. Unfortunately the community here is just kinda dead now though. We can try change that though

A plain language post at the top in the sub that explains what Android TV is and what devices are Android TV devices along with supported device features would be useful.

When are we going to see the removal of ads from your TV's homescreens?
I really didn't pay more than $1k for a brand new, top of the line TV, just to be spammed by google ads a month later.
