Looking forward to what happens when the new Chromecast w/atv is released. It won't replace my shield TVs but deffo going to get one and can see it being very useful for travel.

aniruddhdodiya

It's really good but I've seen many people finding the pricing an issue. Like having 3 TVs and then buying 3 Nvidia Shields would be difficult for people, like you can get 2 TVs at that cost.

So I hope Nvidia Shield would work on some kind of connected cheaper device which people can buy for other TVs and one mother device ( Nvidia Shield)

You know what I would really love? Being able to buy my own hardware and install android on it. I don't know how we got to this point where an OS needs specific hardware, but it's bloody unnecessary.

davpad12

Cute and nonsense all the same, I've got a WXR950G, the AndroidOS is just as slick as my '17Shield. I've also have a TiVoStream4K that runs just as well. I'm only talkin about streaming.

bjorvin

Shield TV is impossible to find in some countries, whereas mibox and android built in TVs are pretty common worldwide, that's why i ended up buying a mibox

nfigot

Funny but not really correct. I've seen the advice is typically face grief from Chinese crap, buy a Mibox if you want best of the low end, and buy NVidia Shield if you want the best - pretty close on the Meme though ;-)

snowzach

I would agree until I got the TiVo stream. If you want a cheap box that does everything and don't necessarily care about hdr or supporting every passthrough sound option, it's a bargain at 50$.

Tired8281

People say the Shield is the most expensive Android TV box, but it's actually the second-most expensive. The most expensive one is the Shield you buy after you buy a lesser device that fails to meet your needs.

mr1sparkle

Why does everyone thinks its either mi box s or the shield? You can get tivo stream 4k, airtv mini, mecool km1 or Verizon stream tv (barely any bloatware)

max1001

Android TV just doesn't run well on low ram. 3 GB should be a minimum but most of these TV ship with 1 GB probably.

supercakefish

It's impossible to buy a 'dumb TV' these days though. Every TV has some sort of smart OS built in.

LetrixZ

Like the Shield was cheap. It cost 5 times more in my country than a Mi Box S.

zfxpyro

Because everyone has a budget for a shield. People need to get over the elitist mentality of its a shield or nothing.

Luke5119

Mi Box is garbage since the latest update. That paltry 8GB shows it's age quickly, and can barely support the updates they push to it.

I have an original Mi Box I purchased in early 2017. It has to be restarted after every deep sleep to get the sound to work. It has delays when navigating as the system can't keep up. Netflix is hit or miss at times, and won't always work. And then certain apps will randomly crash.

Just get the Nvidia Shield TV and call it a day.

victor305

Most people are confused because there is a lot of Android devices, They don't know about Google certified devices, it's stupid for you and me but most people don't know these details, in the other side there is one device without any complications Apple TV, I know the difference between open source and closed but Google needs to step up and make options easier and stupid friendly.

dosangst

While I find this funny, and do own a Shield Pro, I also have 4 Mi Boxes that work just fine as media players.

ArtificiallyIgnorant

I went through them all.. ended up buying the Shield Pro, wasted hundreds on Mi Box, FireStick 4K and Fire Cube and custom PCs. If only I knew then what i know now. Just buy the Shield Pro.

harjon456

Shield is the only decent Android TV device 🤷‍♀️

ImyForgotName

I HATE smart TVs. I have had the same TV for ten years now. It's 1080p 60hz. And you know what I don't need a TV that's full of components that are just going to slow down and become obsolete.

Smart TVs are a freaking scam, I think.

BiggussDikkuss

If I had to buy a - new - 4K HDR TV and I also wanted Android TV at the moment I would grab a HDMI 2.1 equipped 2020 Sony X90H / X900H, why ?

- 4K HDR YouTube and Google Play Movies works

- DolbyVision has correct color outputs

- HLG HDR support

- Upscaling of ALL non 4K content is automatic, no resolution switching needed either.

- No issues with Frame Rate Matching -->> it's all automatic too.

- You get Chromecasting and (Apple) Airplay2 support, plus Apple TV+ support is incoming.

- No HDMI CEC issues

- The X90H's - MediaTek MT5895 is one snappy performer with an excellent GPU

But Shield owners then cry - what about HD audio and Bluray Rips playback ?

Well the flexible Linux based and very well supported CoreELEC Kodi handles that better vs anything Android, especially for Networking.

And there are plenty of Gigabit LAN 4K HDR AMLogic chipset equipped cheap devices to do just that:

MahmoudAlyudeen

Just returned a tube 2019 shield. Hot garbage not suitable for 4k playback w/ or wo/ DV.

PrydaBoy

This is so true!

MikayelMikayelyan

For my Sony KD-XH80 series no need any extra box, I am happy whats included :-)

InterNELU

Used a mi box for years, I got a Nvidia shield half a year ago, 2017 model new from store. The power adapter just died last week. Pretty mad because I live in Tunisia right now during the pandemic outbreak and I don't know from where to get one here. Glad I still have the old mi box around but I really miss the power of the Shield. I read a lot of people had problems with the power adapter, can it be fixed by a repair shop or something?

coolman911099

The Nvidia shield ant bad compared to my tv with has Android tv belt in but i wish It a had a 64 bit ver

TheMarsian

I'm using one and it's all good since the day I purchased it 2 years ago.

GldRush98

Because years later it is still literally the best advice. Built in Android TV's are shit, Mi Boxes are even shittier, and Nvidia is the only one making good hardware with long term fantastic support.

JsmooVE3990

Lololol this is so true.

daddio_71

Jetstream it tivo4k to me it's all about the interface Roku is blah and firestick is just covered up with Amazon

Tipfam

Batman gives great advice 🦇😂

TheNormalChestnut

Just get a Nvidia Shield or a Firestick if you can't afford it

dekks_1389

No Nvidia in regular stores where I'm from, unless ordering and shipping from God knows where. Mibox was my pick

TBosTheBoss

Is there a way to fix the judder when watching movies when you have 59.9 Hz selected, is there a way to have it adapt to the 24 fps of the movie? It gets annoying having to swap between 24 and 60 manually everytime I want to go from gaming to watching movies

Pingable

I have had all three and we are still a long way off the user experience of an apple tv. Maybe the Batman slap should say get an apple product on this one..

Vondra69

I have the mibox s and i use it for youtube and plan to use it for steam link, but i have to get a controller that is compatible if there are any. I know the experience isn't gonna be great, but it will be fine for pc building simulator hopefully.

Bruh15MLG

I have the mi box s and a shield TV and prefer the mi box overall taking price and size into consideration.

Cidationz

I personally got tried of cheap hardware that had performance issues and hardly saw updates. I have the 2017 Sheild and it was and still is worth the money, The biggest thing that matters is updates and app ability. Nvidia has been the most consistent in most categories. I came from a nexus TV which isn't saying a lot but many other devices fall in those categories. I manly use it for streaming and occasional games. I wouldn't recommend anything else ESPECIALLY not a "Smart TV" that won't be supported for a while. You're better off getting cheaper dumb TV and then pairing with A Sheild Or Roku imo. Get what Works with the most services, has updates/support, and works with your budget. If there's laking in 2 of those categories for you with any device, You should try something else.

roofuskit

My philosophy is that if someone is genuinely considering the Shield, they must be able to afford it and should be encouraged to just buy it. If they don't want to drop that amount, no need to push it on them. But anyone with the cash shouldn't bother with anything else, because nothing else comes close.

DuduMaroja

I whould love to buy a shield if it doesn't cost 3 kidneys, I only have two

Mosczn

It's impossible to get Nvidia where I live so Mi Box is better than the built in options. I own the Mi Box 3 and it's not that bad for normal use.

[deleted]

What about countries where shield is not available?

Piekarski1995

Hate the price difference though $100 vs 500 in New Zealand

newyorkrican76

😂 😂 😂 batman is correct and get the shield.i personally have two.i got a third one off let go app used for $80.00 for my mom. I took the game remote that came with it and sold it on ebay for $35 bucks and sold her bullshit firestick for $45 bucks. People are not very bright and give stuff away on let go and Facebook marketplace. Take a look u will thank me for it 😎

ZerrethDotCom

Mibox sucks big time. I've had 2, they're garbage. Shield never let me down.

cupcakesmasher77

Unfortunately googles support of ATV product is terrible. It will got dropped like hot garbage after a couple months. It will likely be horribly under powered aswell
