Usb as Internal Storage only stores 4GB of Data

by Saurabh4982

I installed a Sandisk 32 gb 3.0 USB drive as internal storage on my Sony 4K Bravia Android TV. However, the USB drive is only able to use 4GB of its entire storage capacity. While the system shows 26 GB of free space on the USB drive when I try to transfer any of the apps on to the Drive it says no storage or storage space is low. Any idea why this is happening? I formatted the USB using the TV’s storage formatting option. Please help.

Some apps can't be moved to external storage. But these are the instructions from the Sony site which it sounds like you already did:

Connect a USB memory device to the TV.

Press the HOME button on the remote control.

Select Settings.

Select Storage & reset, then select the desired USB memory device.

Select Format as device storage.

When formatting is finished, Press the HOME button on the remote control.

Select Settings.

Select Apps.

Select the app that you want to move to the USB memory device.

Select the USB memory device from the used storage. The app is moved to the USB memory device.

When Sony Android TV has created the partition on the 32GB USB drive, it might have created Android partitions with userdata partition of 4GB only with other partitions and free space. This can not be checked on a windows machine as windows can not read the android partition. https://source.android.com/devices/bootloader/partitions-images

You can use the EaseUS Partition Master or something similar (google it and download the free version) on windows machine to read and modify the android partitions. With this program, extend the userdata partition to fill the free area. Now you will have more space for storing data and applications.
