Unable to change date / time on Android TV.

by LordRaiders

I have an issue with my Sony smart TV with Android. I'm having issues connecting to my wifi. While debugging I noticed that the time of the device is locked to the 21st of April. My experience is that incorrect date / times on a device can lead to weird issues, maybe even this issue with the wifi.

The problem is that i'm unable to change the date on the device. When I go to: "Device preferences > date & time > automatic date & time" I see the options "use broadcast time". This option is greyed out so I'm unable to change it. I'm wondering why and what "broadcast time" is supposed to mean. I have no cable TV so i'm unsure what this time is based on.

Thanks if someone knows a solution.

From the link that /u/andreibrcg posted:

Enable developer options by clicking Settings > About > Build, 5 times (just like on any other android device), then goto Settings > Developer options, and toggle off "Use broadcast-provided time as TV clock". (This fixes it instantly and you will see the thumbnails start to load in the background)

"Broadcast time" is the time which is broadcast as part of the TV signal. One poster presumes that this may be a digital rights management thing.
