What box

by Bricorn

I'm fed up with buffering. Time for a new box I think. The picture stops for usually 2-3 seconds, while the sound continues. I don't know how to tell if it's the box or the content supplier - hints please?

I'm in Thailand, watching UK TV. WiFi runs about 50Mbps, so I doubt if that's an issue. I got this box only last year, but haven't been too happy with it, very pretty, but who cares about that, it could be a Quasimodo model for all I care. Its an X10 PLUS if that matters.

Recommendations for a new box?

I'd just wait out for Google's Sabrina dongle. Probably coming in October, price expected to be around $50.

You know the answer, >!Nvidia Shield Tv!< , but before getting new box. Try to stream media on your phone which of-course, a powerful device than any Android box. Is it working fine? Then go ahead and get the new box. Otherwise, you need some more investigation what is wrong with your setup internet/wifi/androidbox.

Boxes tend to far more susceptible to thermal lag than say an Amazon Firestick I find. I've run both and the sticks do not seem to have half the issues that many boxes do. I'd try swapping for a stick or invest in a laptop chiller pad to place under the current unit and see if that helps.

UK TV will stream at 25 or 50fps.

In Android settings set output manually to 1080p or 2160p 50Hz

Ultimately you need a device that handles multiple Frame Rates and does what is called auto Frame Rate Matching.

Android TV devices are pretty poor at this for most Apps. The Apple TV HD / 4K the best.

Good luck, no matter which box you have the platform is still broken as hell and your problems will not resolve.
