A mapping app for Sony Android TVs to use remote buttons for system functions

by durrburger93

I'm trying to map remote buttons like channel up/down to increase or decrease my TV brightness on the Sony x900f, but not sure if it's possible. I have button mapper and I added the function but it does nothing as I guess it only applies to android (phone) brightness. Would this be possible with some app?

That would be nice, I have the same tv, but I don't think you can do it with an IR remote. Remeber that the bluetooth is used only for the assitant key on the remote and the microphone. The other keys work through the infrared blaster.

I highly recommend looking at a cheap (preferably refurbished) Harmony remote. I was able to get one for $50 and it was the best decision.

Yeah I think there are some functions that work differently to phones. When it comes to managing the picture in the TV I'll bet the manufacturers have to write their own integration to the menu system. That would mean it's no longer using default commands.

Alternatively it could just be a difference between Android and Android TV. For example, in button mapper i found that a shortcut to app switcher works but it's different, like it's doing an Android default one instead of the nicer looking Android TV implementation.

I use Botton Mapper on Sony & Philips Android TVs and it works for me on both of them. I guess maybe the app recognizes double or long presses depending on how you press the buttons? Try setting double press and long press to also change brightness.
