While I know various ways to download things, especially APKs to sideload, on other devices and get them to the Android TV box (Mi Box), I prefer to be able to just initiate the download on the TV box without having to take the extra step of moving the file.
I had been using Puffin for that, but at some point I guess I accidentally let it update from the version that didn't have downloads blocked and when I tried to downgrade, the app refused to launch.
I installed Downloader, but when I gave it URLs to download, it just gave me an error I couldn't resolve, and it gave me the same error when I tried to install the browser addon. I don't seem to be able to find any other app in the Play Store that lets me download from web. I tried the only other web browser app (TVWeb) I could find, but it doesn't even try to download files, it just sits there doing nothing if the link not a web page.
Is there any method left getting files from the internet into the Android TV box within Android TV, or am I going to be stuck moving files from my other devices?
Sideload Chrome or the mobile version of Firefox (not Firefox tv) and you can download in them. It's best to have a mouse and keyboard to navigate or a remote phone app to use for that.
