USB 3.0 Stick for Android TV - Advice

by Blandu

Hi all, I want to buy an USB Stick to use as external storage for my Android TV. I will use it to install apps on it and I’m not sure what to get.

I assume it has to have good speeds for writing and reading small files and have good longevity when used constantly to read and write data.

I’m based in UK and I was looking at Samsung Fit plus, Samsung bar plus and Patriot supersonic rage elite gen. 1. They seem fine but the writing speed when it comes to small files is not great (from what I’ve seen in some reviews). Also, some people reported devices overheating which I believe it’s not great and will decrease the life of the device...

I’m also thinking about a portable SSD but most of them come in very large capacity and I can’t justify the price...

Would you be able to help me with some recommendations?

Thank you!

Kind regards,

I am using portable 1TB drive from Toshiba and it's working great. No heating or slowdown issues as such. One thing you need to keep in mind is that you cannot directly install onto external storage. The Internal storage need to have enough space for the app/game to be installed which later transfers to the expanded storage. A bummer but better to know it prior.

I dont think the speed matters so much, aslong you have a usb 3.0 and some known brand you should be fine. Dont have a source for it but wouldnt be suprised if your android dont even hit max speeds with some high speed ssds or sticks.. Apps arent big neither so doesnt take long anyway. If you google some about this you ll sure get an answer
