I reset the Shield to factory defaults and installed Launcher X, Google base, and the newest version of Google TV (Google Play Movies and TV). The default launcher is disabled via the adb. It is ok for the most part. But the launcher randomly crashes when returning to it from using a streaming service and taks about 10 to 20 seconds to load up.
Anyone else experincing this?
Yes.. I noticed it. I also have to reselect it as an use always option.
I’ve had this exact issue and am surprised it took this long for it to show up here. Same thing happens on both my 2019 pro and 2017.
I watch these YouTube videos where it appears to work perfectly and wonder what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried several times but same result. It does work better without using the newer google_base.apk I’ve noticed.
There is problem that many of that apks are newer than OS in nVidia shield
I only had one crash, but that was after browsing hundreds of movies in the recommendations adding them to my watchlist, mark as watched, like/unlike etc.

Came here to post this. The assistant is better with new base app but I lose ability to search across everything except Netflix. Disney+ is especially buggy. If I go back to old base app it doesn’t work within the launcher. I think I’ll revert back to the shields default.

Same problem here except that rather than crashing, I get a consistent 12 second delay when returning to the home screen from any app or settings.
I've only installed today and fiddled for a half and hour or so, and it seems to work perfectly with my 2019pro, except for Search, which is to be expected as the Search_Fix.apk would not install. If anyone knows how to get that to install, please let us know!

Hi, thanks, so where would I get this other version of the Google app, and how would I install it if the Google app is a system app?
I have noticed the crash when clicking the back button when you are on the Google TV Home Screen. This is due to the launcher wanting to go to the new screensaver that comes with the new Chromecast with Google TV. But the shield doesn’t have that so it crashes.
I have shared all the APK from the new chromecast. Give them a try and see if you can find a fix.
