Trying to understand audio aspects on Android TV

by okoyl3

Hey, I'm Currently using Raspberry PI with LibreELEC with a 5.1 USB Audio card that is connected to 3.5mm 5.1 surround audio system, currently it is setup to use it only as 3.1, and it works Amazing! (Kodi is setup to limit to 3.1 and output using the USB audio card).

But, we are upgrading our TV soon to a bigger one, a 4k one, And I'm really having troubles to understand the mess that is Android TV, it looks like a really dumb operating system, no way to change display resolution, no way to setup audio channels? you can only toggle HDMI passthrough and deal with the results because it's a closed source system that no one can modify... is it really this messy or there are good solutions? I don't want to use HDMI pass-through, I want to tell Android to use 3.1, not 5.1, not 7.1, I don't want to lose rear channels.

Hello, almost every device with an embedded operating system like Android won't allow to manually set the audio channels you want to use, in Android TV's case, starting with Android TV 9, you can set the audio output to be detected automatically depending on where it is connected, manually set the codecs you want to use or turn it off altogether.

The same applies to Apple TV, Fire TV devices, etc, etc, etc.
