Google TV issue with CEC (TV volume control)

by Darkoobi

Just finished setting up the new Google TV dongle on my Vizio TV (V series). The CEC seems to be semi broken: I can turn the TV on/off using the GTV remove, however, the volume control doesn't work consistently, regardless of the speaker output (TV or soundbar) I'm using. Sometime it works and other times it's fully broken. Does anyone else experience a similar issue?

Just use ir instead

CEC is mostly completely broken for me. I switched volume control to IR until it gets fixed.

Are you pointing the remote at the TV when you try to change the volume?

I use the tv sound and the mute button works great for me. Also checked and volume buttons are working. I have a non smart samsung tv.

I didn't have any experience like that.

I have a Sharp TV which supports CEC bought in 2012. Controls work perfectly via either HDMI CEC or IR.

I'm using IR volume control with my Sony receiver and it's horrible. Works very infrequently. Google support had me reset the Google TV chromecast, and then it magically worked well...for about 2 days. Then back to very flaky volume control. Super frustrating. Tried resetting the IR code several times, removing batteries from remote, but nothing seems to work.
