Limit recommendations to installed apps/services?

by ThePuckaLiarCall

I installed the new Google TV launcher on my Shield using these instructions: https://www.howtogeek.com/693761/how-to-get-the-google-tv-ui-on-android-tv-devices-right-now/

It looks great, and I'm liking the new interface. The only problem I'm having is that a lot of the recommended movies and TV shows are from services I don't subscribe to and/or aren't installed on my Shield. For example, when I go to the "movies" tab, the big banners at the suggest movies from Disney+, HBOmax, and Starz. None of which I subscribe to.

I already went into the settings and made sure "My Services" were toggled on and the ones I don't use are toggled off, but it doesn't seem to have affected my recs.

Am I missing something or is google likely getting paid by Disney, Warner, etc. to promote their content/services?

Hmm 🤔 sounds like Google is selling ad space. You might be on to something.

its because youre using it on a shield, using a launcher that is intended for the american market. the recommendation you are getting are available on the new chromecast in the american market

Hmmm. On the new Chromecast, I only receive recommendations for non-subscribed services on the "Trending on Google" row. Every other row only lists titles from my streaming services.

where is My services under settings? I couldn't find it

It's because you are using the launcher on android tv, so it doesn't properly pick up your sources and defaults to the services it shows when not configured.
