Android Tv on new Xiaomi Mi 4S L55M5 LED-TV does not seem to play 4K

by KunKiddo

Hi guys! First of all if I am in the wrong forum for tech questions like the one above feel free to "push" me to another subreddit :)

I just bought myself a new 4K from Xiaomi, it comes preinstalled with Android TV(nice). But when I try to stream 4K content, it does not seem to really display that resolution, don't get me wrong the picture is looking great af but if I go into stats it tells me the host file is playing in 4K but the display is not representing that resolution accurately.

The display mode is set to 1080 but it is indeed a 4K TV and I did not find any mode or setting to switch that mode.

I will post a picture too so you can understand what I mean.

Hopefully someone can help me out here, would really appreciate it!

what is it that you're streaming and where from ?

some providers/sources adapt resolution to be lower when bandwidth isn't sufficient to regularly stream 4K clips. normally that happens a few seconds after playback started.

since you 're not currently using HDMI cable and connector, it makes sense to skip those steps to verify the connection. we can't be sure about what ' XiaoMI miTV 4S' software is like however, if it comes with standard AndoidTV build, head to ' Settings > Device Preferences > Display ' and see whether display resolution option suits your needs [ sometimes AUTO setting isn't ideal ]

Though the only way to check the real resolution is inside the emby player and the youtube app

we own xiaoMI miBox [ Android TV ] and settings menu may be slightly different though we have no visuals for ' xiaoMI mi-TV 4S ' settings and options.

for instance... when we browse xiaoMI miBox settings, [ AndroidTV SETTINGS > DEVICE PREFERENCES > DISPLAY > RESOLUTION ] we can then modify options to fit the panel specs for the TV-set we own, since we use HDMI connector. your TV-set settings menu though, won't apparently show options to modify display preferences, you'll have to turn to alternative routes to then perform tests on the flat panel.

first things to do ... connect a device/gadget to a HDMI connector fitted on your TV-set, you'll need to make sure the flat panel supports and plays 4K resolution clips and displays 4K resolution images [ pick HDMI cable also compatible with 4K; maybe ask a friend or a neighbor who owns a TV box with 4K support, borrow that device for an afternoon in the week-end ??? ]

a TV-set flat panel often supports screen resolutions may differ from what you find on papers, that is, sometimes, the TV-set tuner is built around technology to support 4K resolution, allowing to correctly decode a TV signal of broadcasting networks exploiting UHD transmissions. a flat panel then needs to be tested separately and for several resolution settings [ mainly: 720; 1080i/p; 4K ], also refresh frequency [ for updating image on the screen ] is a great deal since flat panels often support 4K res. [ UHD ] with frequency is, however, limited to 24Hz.

forgive US for the long message

Its seems like a standard android tv build to me but the option you described is nowhere to be found :o

Is there a menu button on your remote, three lines? My Roku Tv is set up like this, where you actually have to be watching tv, and access the menu (star) buttone to access video options.

Kinda like in this video: https://youtu.be/qY3JPgXCtKs?t=67

what we meant is:

' flat panel test often is what you want to start with, and then troubleshoot with everything else .'

it would be, in fact, a waste of time playing a medium while expecting to watch it in UHD ( 4K resolution ) when maybe, hopefully not, the flat panel fitted in your TVset isn't even compatible with UHD. the latter may sometimes occur under several different circumstances, often when factories / manufacturing plants run out of suitable flat panels and use alternative and lower specs ones instead.

Android Tv handles things differently, but thanks for the other Ideas,

" changing to TV input " then select HDMI connector you may connect to a game console; media player; TVbox; sat decoder or other device supports UHD [ 4K display resolution. ]
