How has the new update been for Mi Box 3 users?

by Flux0rz

I turned on my Mi Box 3 after 2 months of no usage. I got prompted with a new android system update. I haven't installed it, since something usually breaks after updating.

Can anyone with a Mi Box 3 share what they've experienced with the new update?

I watch a lot of movies with KODI and it works pretty good for the most part. I'd really hate to lose that by keeping it up to date.

After updating I can't turn on the Mi Box anymore with the remote. I have to unplug the power cable to get it to start, really annoying.

I updated my Mi Box 3 to Android 9 and everything went smooth. The only thing that stoped working for me was OTA live TV 720p mpeg2 video. I get pixelated/distorted video. 1080p plays fine.

I've moved on to a Chromecast with Google TV so I don't really care anymore.

Be aware updating to v9.0 Pie and you lose Kodi HD audio support.
Regular DD, DD+, DD+/Atmos and DTS still work.

I however now get, finally, correct full motion mpeg2 and h264 deinterlacing of OTA TV.

Downloading it now. Will report back. Will probably regret it if it's like 6 or 7 were with the remote issues. Fingers crossed, though I need an excuse for a shield pro!

I found 2 issues.. one is a problem for me other i don't care.

1: multi channel PCM audio is gone 2: HDMI CEC is now even more wonkier.. I can't use it anymore.

Absolute disaster for me. USB to ethernet adaptor no longer works and the WiFi keeps turning itself off (not disconnecting, actually turning off). Turned the thing into a useless puck for me.

apart from not being able to wake it up with remote... it's been nice... :(

Like you I was expecting bugs, but fortunately mine has been smooth sailing. No stutters, remote wakes the box, USB ethernet still works, CEC also works with my LG TV. I don't use Kodi though, so no comment there.
