Google TV - sound issues? Crackling noise

by iamthestigscousin

Just got my Google TV, but having a crackling sound with the audio sometimes, not sure if I've got a dodgy unit. Anyone else experiencing this?

Things i would be instantly trying it

  • Using it on another TV, seeing if the issue carries to that TV, then its a good indicator its the googleTV

  • Trying different HDMI ports

  • Adjusting TV sound settings (some have presets like (music, sports, movies)

  • factory resetting the tv and googleTV box

I have the same problem, Philips TV and crackling noise with Chromecast with Google TV. Tried different solution such has closing the app on the TV but it has no effect. Furthermore now it affects my PS5 from time to time and the only solution is to restart the peripheral, Chromecast of PS5 but it’s just temporary... Any thoughts?

It's powered using the included power adapter? I remember the Chromecast audio made crackling noises when it was not powered properly...

Did the replacement fix it? I have the same issue. Seems random.

Do you have yours plugged into a Philips Android TV by any chance?

I have the same issue on my Philips android TV. Went through Google support and they had no idea. Seems very odd. Have never had a problem with any other type of Chromecast on the same TV.

I had the same issue on Philips android tv. I switched the audio settings on the tv to multichannel instead of stereo and after that I think it was fixed. Before this change i used to kill the google tv by unplugging it.. quite annoying

Just bought a new Google TV and having the same problems on a Philips TV.

This is because the device is back of TV. There is obstruction to Bluetooth signal. I bought Amazon Basics High-Speed Male to Female HDMI Extension Cable - 6 Feet and keep Device in open area front of TV. I don't see any problem now. I can move upto 70 feets and still listen clearly.

My problem is also on a Philips Android TV, bought the Chromecast TV because of how bad the support and updates are for this TV. The TV is so buggy, seeing others in this thread with a Philips now makes sense. I've got my TV hooked up to an Atmos soundbar, so it's not going to work switching to stereo as a long term solution. Unplugging the power and restarting the device is the only fix that really works.
