Aquaman 4K and Alita 4K stuttering badly on GoogleTV, but other movies are fine... they were fine on the Samsung TV app last time I tried... any sense in this?

by Z3M0G

I would need to believe that both Aquaman and Alita 4K movies are "corrupted" or badly encoded or something on Google Movies... I have other 4K movies that work perfectly fine on the same Google TV...

Anyone else ever experience anything like this??

I used to have big problems with this on my 2014 Sasmsung Smart TV. Especially with movies like Prometheus that a scene of intentionally pixelated hologram in it.

It turned out that the CPU and RAM in the TV itself were unable to handle the data being sent to it and it would stutter. When I bought a Roku Ultra (for that TV) it resolved the issue. I've since replaced the Samsung and Roku with an LG and an nVidia Shield Pro.

Is it possible that there is an issue similar to this going on with your Google TV?

Hmm I own Aquaman in 4K on GoogleTV and it plays perfectly fine for me. No idea why that would be the case for you

Is this the Chromecast With Google TV? Yeah I had multiple issues with 4K titles playing in Play Movies & TV (not every titles though). I suspect is how Play Movies & TV is handling codecs or bitrates of these titles. The only workaround I discovered was playing the same titles in the YouTube app. They played just fine in 4K there.

I eventually took the device back. When Google gets this issue addressed I’ll pick it up again.

Hi guys,

I picked up the chromecast with google tv yesterday and have been testing it. For Streaming services like Netflix it seems to play 4K okay.

I use a VOD service that has 1080p content, and 4K content. I’m experiencing the google tv dongle can play 1080p stuff okay but when I tried 4K it was stuttering or would not even play and crash Mx player and VLC completely. I tried both HW and HW+ decoders and both would crash.

I don’t know what it is but the Amazon 4K stick and Nvidia shield can play everything I chucked at it but the google tv can’t. Not sure if it’s the frame rate issue, codecs or something else. I’ve tried both wireless and wired Ethernet playback, the google tv speed tests came out the same. But neither wireless or wired could effectively stream 4K content via Mx player or VLC as both apps would crash.

On paper it looks like the better device and I like the interface but it just won’t work as well as the fire stick 4K. I’m hoping an update will fix it at some point.

I'm having the same problems ,with a IPTV service ,my NVIDIA pro and firestick 4k have no issues playing 4k movies the cc/gtv will just stutter and buffer the whole time regardless wether it's on wifi or ethernet ,my 4 year-old Android box from eBay does a better job

YES. Joker and Ready Player one and Shazam, too. UK user here. All these films stutter and stop frames every second or so. Have we been shipped a substandard piece of tech or what? Interestingly these are all Warner Bros films. Chromecast Ultra and my Sony Android TV's built-in chromecast play these titles in 4K HDR just fine. You can even force open Google Play Movies app and see the same playback issues. You can avoid these problems by opening YouTube app and playing the films from 'My Movies' tab under Library, but that's not right..

Also, all my TV Shows are broken and I can't access them from Google TV 'Library' tab... Plus, try searching and playing 'The Office'. What a mess.

Who's downvoting? Could anyone else just clarify that they can play these WB titles properly in 4K HDR without it stuttering on their CCwGTV instead?
