PLEASE HELP w/ Android TV Sony Bravia // Software issue??

by carrouselhop

Hey everyone,

We recently bought our first 4k tv. It is Sony Bravia KD65X75CH and we live in California, USA. It is an Android TV.

Here some background of our Internet and setup:

-We have two main WIFI networks: 2.5gh and 5G (part of the same service by Spectrum). One older router for the former and a fancier one for the later, both provided by Spectrum.

-The tv is literally next to the router but separated by a thin wall. Other devices are further away from the router and the work perfectly.

During the first few months the tv was working smoothly and zero issues, but for the last 4 weeks or so the TV keeps getting disconnected from 5g connection. The weirdest part is that this happens only with the 5g network. The tv as of right now is not experiencing any issues connecting to 2.5gh EXCEPT when I turn on my ps4, which is also connected to the same 2.5gh network. That's when the system collapses.

So no, it is not viable to connect the tv to 2.5gh cause the moment I turn on other devices connected to the same wifi we will get trouble. And no, PS4 cannot connect to 5g. Besides, the tv should work with no issues,

Important to mention rest of our devices at home are on 5g and they work with no problem, including smartphones, computers, smart speakers.

We did some troubleshooting:

-We reset the tv to its factory form

-We changed channels forthe wifi, both 5g and 2.5gh

-We restarted our WIFI system.

Please, what else can we do?

Do you guys think this is a hardware issue?

Is this Google software issue (Android TV)?

Is this Spectrum issue?

Anybody on the same boat?

Thanks a lot and hope I can get some solution to this

If it's that close to the router, I'd suggest just running a LAN cable directly to the TV

Press and hold the power button on the Sony remote when the tv is powered on, it will perform a soft rest. That may solve your issue.

I don't have any specific advice, but some things come to mind as possibilities.

It may be that there is a bug with the wifi radio in the TV. It's happened before, so it doesn't surprise me.

It may be that the TV is too close to the access point - very close antennas can do worse due to high power levels swamping the automatic gain control capability of the rf front-end. Lowering the power output of the access point or separating them more may make it go away. Note that this really only happens when they're a few inches apart. I understand that lowering the access point's power level will affect your whole network, but trying it may help to at least figure out what the issue is, even if the change is temporary. I don't know expect this to help, but it is possible.

Go wired!!!

I have a Sony Bravia... Two of them. They both have TERRIBLE wifi. (So does the PS4). My guess has always been that it was a Sony hardware problem. Even wired has its terrible moments.

Google chromecast eliminated all the problems. Great TV, better OS implementation.

Two Sony Bravia (2017 and 2019). PS4. Google Wifi and AmplifiHD. 2.4 and 5ghz

So I have two Sony tv’s (900F & 850F) and neither of them will connect to my wifi at all when I have the fast roaming feature on my mesh wifi Network turned on, once I turn it off they connect right away, something about Sony’s hardware isn’t compatible with that specific feature, maybe check your router settings and see if it has something like that.
