Google TV Family

by Dan-in-Va

I’m considering cutting the Verizon TV cord and subscribing to Google TV’s family plan at $65/mo. I have 6 people (including me) in my family group.

I have Netflix Premium. Is it worth it to cancel this subscription and get it through Google, or is it a step down in terms of options, streaming quality, and simultaneous streams?

Does Google TV force watching TV on DVR recordings? Is there a fast forward or skip option like on TiVo? This is a big deal for me.

What is the best device for Google Tv? The harder to get Google TV Ultra? The Stadia Premium? Or the smaller basic puck?

Thanks

I think you've gotten confused as a result of Google's once again shoddy branding.

I think you're talking about Youtube TV.

Not sure what this means.

Don't know the answer to that one, sorry. Maybe someone else does or you should ask elsewhere.

This is an Android TV subreddit. We discuss devices that run Android TV and the new Chromecast with Google TV (Google TV is an OS... sorta).

It seems you're talking about normal Chromecasts. They aren't really meant to be discussed here.

However, I'd recommend the $50 Chromecast with Google TV . Works well and it will be excellent for Youtube TV.

Hope that helps!

We just switched from Verizon, using TiVo's for DVR to YouTube TV. We're using Chromecast with Google TV for our devices.

We've liked it. The "DVR" experience is a change. Android TV is more of a video platform that serves video from multiple app sources, one being YouTube TV. You'll still have a guide on YouTube TV, but the whole experience is more about VOD and not DVR functionality.

You'll still have recorded shows with fast forward ability on YouTube TV, but recordings aren't organized as they are in TiVo. There is no "Only Record New." There is only record, that will live in the cloud DVR for nine months. You can sort recorded shows by recently recorded, but not by newly aired.
