First impressions of Google TV

by Negative_Plane

So I’m a bit of a tech freak when it comes to tech. So when I saw the Google TV it caught my interest.

I currently have a Shield and Chromecast Ultra for Stadia.

So I ordered from Google - very very easy to set up. However unlike my shield my American google account didn’t pick up as many of the apps as I’d like DAZN being one. But pretty easy to sideload it.

I ordered a USB C hub so I’ve got a 500GB SSD attached to it.

The only thing I don’t like is that there isn’t a quick way of closing apps? Seems you have to force close them all individually? Unless someone knows of a way/app that does this.

But in my view much better than the Amazon Firestick which I guess is the market Google are going for.

I’m enjoying the Google TV interface - just wish it would show more apps.

Also I’ve noticed my shield picks up that my tv can run 4K at 60hz but Google TV only picks it up at 4K 30hz which means no UHD in Netflix but I get it on Amazon Prime and Youtube.

So I’ll rate it 7/10

Android is supposed to be designed to close apps for you, I don't think you've needed to close apps yourself for about 10 years.

The device is capable of 4k 60 don't know why you aren't seeing it maybe somehow there was not a proper handshake. I would try a different HDMI port just in case.

Which USB hub have you connected to it, if I may ask?

What hub did u buy for it? I've been looking at adding ethernet and extra storage to it.

I use the paid version of button mapper to accomplish what the Shield does.

I map a double tap of home button to open “recents” (recent app list), and a double tap of back button to send “backspace” key (close app). You need to run an ADB command though, so you have to pay for the app, and have some knowledge of how to allow and execute adb on the device.

Would this be the "Home" button?
