My x900h Sony feels faster than my shield, ram doesn't seem to be a necessity for android TV.
I haven't seen anything over 3gb RAM on an offical device to date. I've a 2015 Nvidia Sheild and it has 3gb of RAM (the new tube style one is only 2gb). And I've recently bought 2 Philips 8505 TV's for the hosue and I made sure both have 3gb of RAM as well.
There's not that many offical Android TV boxes on the market, (Shield, Xiaomi and one or two more)
If we are talking Sony Android TV's then read this:
Android TV televisions in general are still featuring 2GB of RAM (though Sony 2020 models sport 2.5GB) while one TV box manufacturer (Videostrong) have some with 4GB of RAM.
