Google TV on Sony TV guide

Hey everyone, recently been playing around and was able to get a nearly fully working google tv experience on my Sony X900H. This will apply to shield as well.

Follow the instructions from this site: How To Geek

Install the two apks (both are needed), enabled adb, uninstall default launcher.

From this point depending if you have access to the new Google tv app or not (I don't in Canada) to pick your streaming services and work your watchlist go to a new Google search and type "What to watch". You'll see a settings icon to the top right of the results. Click it and hit edit services.

This will make the "For You" tab work for you. You can rate shows to help it along.

For the most part everything works. You won't have the new settings menu and clicking the screensaver button in the menu will crash it. (Reloads)

Followed the instructions, but when the Google TV launcher starts, it hangs, not showing any icons, (just a black screen, with grey areas where the app icons should appear - And showing the Google TV name in upper left corner

My tv is AF8 running pie

Any suggestions ?

I have just installed it on my new Freebox Pop (France). So far so good (ish) - have impression that it's slower than CCwGTV. Screensaver works fine, though there is no option to use it with your Google Photos, which is a bummer. Can live without new menus, at least so far it hasn't been an issue. Super happy with a better remote ( https://free.fr/assistance/im/faq/assistance/FbxPop/telecommande.jpg ), even though the Button Mapper doesn't seem to work for top 3 buttons (Netflix/Prime/Free) - but all bottom numbers are programmable, so at least there's that. The adventure continues...

I did this to my shield Pro 2017 and it was ok, but couldn’t use the back button to exit to the main screen anymore, and every time I hit the home button it’ll reload all the content of e Home Screen, ended up reverting back to the old UI

Mine loads ok, however, the 'Home screen' never fully loads (I get a Loading Error). I do have access to all the apps and they work.... search too - however, the top bit where I suppose there will be trailers or similiar push for media never loads... restart does nothing.. Anyone here tried this?
