Android TV RAM

by North_Bet_4047

Does anyone know if 2 GB is enough for a few years of using an Android TV box?Have 4 GB options, is it the most recommended, or is it overkill?

Chromecast with Google TV (which is just Android TV with a new launcher and rebranded name) has 2GB RAM and is brand spanking new so I don’t think there’s any reason to be concerned about RAM in other Android TV devices.

The only certified Android TV devices with 4GB of RAM are the ones made by a chinese company called "Videostrong", it is the manufacturer of the "Mecool" devices, the Mecool KM1, the KM3, the KM9 Pro and the KM6 (coming soon) sport 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal memory.

you don't need to worry about ram, all certified android tv boxes runs android tv 32 bit with 2 gigs of ram including the shield tv stick. shield tv pro is only device runs android tv 64 bit. mi box for example came out in 2016 and still getting updates recently it got upgraded to android 9 and yet running smooth with 2 gigs of ram. geforce now isnt heavy to run so you are fine.

I would really recommend 4gb. I'm not sure about ATV specifically but that's a really small amount of RAM for most other general computing stuff.

yeah 2gb is fine, the nvidia tube only has 2 gigs, but id assume better optimized then any chinese box.

any of the official android tv deivces with 2gbs of ram are fine.

You actually want a minimum of 2GB RAM for Android TV so that Apps do not get killed due to OS garbage collection routines and stay minimised when you use other Apps.

The advantage with that is when you use the original App again it quick launches from memory instead of starting from scratch all over again, which is always slower.
