Need a low priced TV Box/Stick. ¿Suggestions?

by jaimedm_v3

Hi. So, today I got a mail from HBO saying that the HBO app would no longer work in a PS3, wich I still used as my main media player. My Panasonic TV does support Netflix, but not HBO or Amazon.

I've looking at the Xiaomi stuff, the Mi TV Stick is cheap but I've read that is quite slow because of a low RAM. The Mi Box look good but apparently there's some issues with Amazon Prime? It also has a USB port wich the Stick doesn't, and that could come handy for some local media playing.

I'd mainly use it for streaming (does Kodi work well in these?), but I'd love to be able to play some retro emulators too. How's the gamepad compatibily in both those models? I've a wired cheap gamepad, an Xbox 360 wired pad and a PS3 bluetooth gamepad. Would any of these work?

What should I get? Should I look into other brands, like Fire TV or the new Chromecast? I'm from Spain, so some stuff like Roku may not be in here, and the Nvidia Shield is way off budget for me. Also, my TV is 1080p, so 4K compatibily is not a necessity.

Thanks.

i suggest you to wait for black friday and get chromecast with google tv. the mi box s is great i have been using it for 2 years on 1080p tv and my experience with it is good, lately few days it start to lag when i watch live tv due to very outdated aging hardware from 2016. little gaming on it isn't great but at least playable i haven't try any emulation. its good for streaming content but not gaming on it and watching live tv

chromecast with google tv is powerful device and with latest hardware better than mi box when watching live tv and little gaming on it and emulation

if you are from spain then google tv and mi box s and nvidia shield are the only google certified devices to buy

Check this out if you are looking into cheap it does not have much storage but it works great for the price. And yes this device is certified for use with Netflix and other services ETC works great.

Dynalink from Walmart, it costs only 30 dollars and has Android TV 10 and 4K capability in case you need it. I can share the link, if you want to

Are the Mi stuff really that bad? Because they are right now on sale, the stick is like $33 and the box is $50, so it's either one of those or waiting for some future sale of the Chromecast 2020.

Not sure if they're available in Spain, but the Tivo Stream 4K and the Chromecast With Google TV are both great, and inexpensive.
