Game streaming on Chromecast with Google TV - decoding latency?

by MoreOrLessCorrect

A number of reviews mentioned that the new Chromecast worked well for game streaming, but now that I've tested it (Moonlight, Steam Link, Stadia), it seems as though it has approx. 30 ms decoding latency (vs < 7ms for the Shield for example), which is enough to introduce a noticeable amount of lag... Maybe this is why no official Stadia on the device? Anyone have a different experience?

Stop using WiFi, hardwire everything using ethernet if chasing every last - ms

I played gylt on stadia with CCWGTV no lag. Then I tried another game. Cant remember which one but the lag made me give up. Wifi 200 up/down about 20 feet from router

What controller are you using for Steam Link? Personally Steam Link was terrible for me but I tried AMD Link and the stream from my PC was perfect. I suspect that u/BiggussDikkuss is right regarding using an ethernet cable and that would probably solve my issues with Steam Link. My other issue is a Bluetooth controller. A friend loaned me his Steam Controller and I think it was working in Steam Link but it was only acting like a mouse when using AMD Link.

your 100% spot on, I got the exact same issue, I measured the latency to be 30ms, where as my galaxy s20 fe and my 2017 ipad both stream fine at 4ms latency. So its deff the hardware on the google tv, (idk why they didnt just call it google tv). Now im thinking of trying to get a shield instead, I also put the tv and monitor side by side and the google tv was 1-2 seconds later. I also tried plugging the controller straight into my pc and it was still laggy, so its the image latency that is the issue, I first thought it was controller input. Did you ever find a fix? all the reviews that say it works great say "tiny bit of latency is to be expected but u get used to it"... well I stream daily to my phone and sry the google tv just doesnt cut it

For me, when using a bluetooth controller, I felt uncomfortable lags. Then I tried with a xbox controller wirelessly connected to pc. The latency is quite well decreased that I can play comfortably.
