I've updated to the new GoogleTV by following the how-to-geek guide, all seemed to work OK until at the end when I have pressed the home button it did not take me to a home screen, instead it took me to a blank page.

I was just about to try it, I think I'll wait till further information and testing is done.
Same problem... if you want to undo it....
Disable: pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.tvlauncher
And to undo: pm enable com.google.android.tvlauncher
Then restart for good measure.
If your looking to get it working, I cannot provide much help as I was running into the same problem and gave up. It’s probably something google did on their end to prevent the UI from loading fully.
If you use LauncherX from 6th October (not latest), that works fine on my Nvdia Shield Pro.
