There's an ambient brightness option somewhere iirc. Have you checked that it's disabled?
This app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bo.fotoo&hl=en looks promising.. But, it's so expensive(~$20) for just a screensaver...
you can use Google Home to setup your ambient screensaver. Also you can add your own photos with Google Photos as source. this used to work on android 7, disabled on 8 and now its back in android 9. anyway... the default screensaver images are not that hq
At least you get one. On Philips TV it doesnt even start and Philips is like “ask google about it, not our fault” and Google is like “ask tv manufacturer”. 😤
