I recently switched my entire household over to YouTube TV. My Grandmother is 95 y/o and has trouble using technology. I'd like to simplify the entire process for watching YouTube TV so she can enjoy watching her shows without getting confused. I'd like live channels to instantly begin playing upon powering on the TV. Also, I want to reconfigure two buttons on the controller for navigating up/down through channels. Does anyone have suggestions for how I might be able to do this?
I’m not as familiar with YouTubeTV but in a similar quest with my Mom who liked the idea of cutting the cord but is very stuck in the past, my solution included the flirc . That let me give her a traditional IR remote with buttons limited to ones that wouldn’t take her out of her TV app. She can use number buttons, guide, etc., but mainly she depends on the up/down channel buttons and volume. I’m having mixed luck with starting in the app though. If started up the app I’m using works. However if the device sleeps, on wake up it’s going to the home screen. Luckily we are in the same house and it happens rarely enough neither of us cares.
PS only catch with this route was I had to hook up a hub to the CCGTV to have a way to both power it and have a open USB connection for Flirc. Another thing to look at is the harmony hub and remote. We tried that though and she hated the remote. Buttons not clearly labeled, small, etc. the positive side of it though would be you can automate steps, like opening apps, etc.
