So close to getting Duo working!

by nikc0069

I’ve got a shield tv 2015, a Logitech c270 and a ps3 eye.

The ps3 eye plugged in at the same time as the Logitech gets around the sound bug for duo.

However, sometimes the camera disconnects, and only comes back after a reboot.

Equally, when it does stay connected, it goes dark after the first call. It still works but the picture goes dark.

Is this a known issue with webcams on Android TV? Is it just me? Are there any fixes other than a reboot?

Google added official UVC webcam support on Android 9 but the Shield, the original Mi Box and the Mi Box S had support from the very beggining.

However, the Shield appears to have support for non-UVC webcams but I can't confirm this and I think that's the reason why that webcam is working.

To save you a headache, I recommend to get an UVC webcam, recommended ones are the Logitech C270 (720p) and the C920 (1080p).

Currently, webcam support is kinda buggy because the microphone doesn't work with the majority of webcams and Google doesn't seem to be keen to fix this problem.

There is a bug report at "Issue Tracker" website where you can add your frustration to this matter.

I bought a simple webcam on Amazon and it works really well on my 2015 Shield. I use it frequently with Zoom and Duo.

Success!

I bout this webcam:

wansview 1080P Webcam with Microphone https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086QTK3NL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_dlC_cgSWFbM66003S?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Plug it in, restart, then plug in the ps eye.

I have sound, no dark picture. Had one disconnect, but restart and it all comes up perfect again. Multi participant works way better than on the web on my atom Ubuntu box.

Of course there is still the outgoing cropping of video which is odd but a Google thing I think.
