Mi Box 4k Wont stay awake

by JohnSunBlack

After installing the latest update to the Xiaomi Mi box 4k, my Mi box is unable to stay awake. I already had Wakelock running before the update and it worked perfectly. After the update it seemed like Wakelock was removed and I had to reinstall it.

But now my Mi Box is unable to get out of hibernation by remote and to get it working I have to replug the power cord to force a reboot.

Does anyone have the solution?

Don't you just have to change the screensaver settings? And maybe the battery saving settings as well. Don't have much experience with mibox though, only android TV.

I don’t think Wakelock works with Android TV 9.

Sorry, maybe not the solution you are looking for, but I upgraded my Mi Box 3 MDZ-16AB to Pie 9 and found the it was not ready for prime time yet

After dealing with the Mi Box unable to stay awake, Mi remote sleeping and having to replug the power cord and issues like loosing the picture on TV, I have decided to downgrade back to Oreo without losing the DRM copyright, WIFI, Bluetooth, and Netflix SN using this guide:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mi-box-3-mdz-16-ab-downgrade-android-9-pie-to-android-8-oreo.4194075/

It worked perfectly and I am back on Oreo build 2562 where almost everything works perfectly and wakelock 3 works to keep the box from hibernating. The only issue during the update from recovery was that I had to use 3 different USB keys until I found one working and I had to manually wipe data and cache before the 2167 to 2562 update started from recovery. No need to open the box just follow the instructions in the above link to the letter.

I had the same issue with one of my Miboxs and did a factory reset. Seeing much better performance so far, but its still a Mibox.

As the earlier commenter is doing, I will be replacing my boxes with the new Chromecast units when I get a chance. Faster performance all-around with a better remote. Seems like the way to go for me.

Doesn't solve your problem, but I was in your boat and got the new Chromecast w/ Google TV.

Make the switch. You won't regret it.
