Dynalink Android TV Box USB Storage - Working !

by TechDoctorUK

Hey guys,

After much hair pulling, I have finally managed to get USB Storage working on the $30 Dynalink Android TV Box.

## Video showing process with 4K HDR Demo

For the people that don't know, the specs are:

SoC | Amlogic S905Y2

CPU | Quad-core 1.8 GHz (ARM Cortex-A53)

GPU | ARM Mali-G31 MP2

RAM | 2GB

Storage | 8GB

Its basically this box rebadged by dynalink. Pretty impressive specs for $30

Stuff that didn't help

  • Trying 3 different styles of OTG cable / adapters
  • Trying 4 different brands of USB drives
  • Trying 2 different power adapters
  • Trying 2 different USB hubs
  • Using ADB to format the drive (would fail during the format process)

What worked for me

  • 16gb usb drive ! (all previous drives that I tried were 32GB and higher)

Not sure if there is an issue with the device trying to format larger USB drives but 16GB worked fine for me. If any of you have this device and can't get the USB storage working then please try it with a 16Gb (or smaller) drive and see if that works.

See my post here on how to get adopted storage working on the Dynalink box

Manually setup adopted storage for troublesome devices.

Nice. What steps did you use to pull this off? Which otg cable/hub? I have tried everything, 3 different cables. 3 different hubs. Probably around 10 flash drives as well as micro sd cards and even hard drives. Both 2.5 and 3.5 form factor. Powers and unpowered where applicable. It will ask me to format and what style then fail and the device just remains "ejected".

Thanks for sharing, TD! I will give this a go, as my efforts with a 32 GB USB drive were ejected. Marc 👍

16 GB is certainly much better than 8 GB, a lot of which is taken up by the OS. Thanks TDUK.

The recorded tv is encrypted on the usb stick, right?

I had a breakthrough with and old 16gb drive on another non android start tv. Bigger devices just failed silently. The that worked was a seven year old device and it thought it was just lucky somehow. Didn’t reckon on silent size issues

It doesn't like Samsung 3.1 USB. Says ejected. Aaarrrggghh

I tried about 15 different USB drives, ranging from 2GB to 256GB, and USB 2.0 to 3.0. Absolutely zero luck...

I couldn't find a video about it. Is there a YouTube video? I couldn't install adb shell

Have a Samsung 128GB 3.1 working with aa regular OTG adapter. Just needs to be NTFS formatted.

FYI, Dynalink is the retail brand of the OEM, Askey.
