Chromecast with Google TV random black screen issues...

by d1863

I recently just purchased the new Chromecast with Google TV. When watching movies like on Netflix or HBO Max every 15 minutes or so the screen will go black for a couple seconds. And also I noticed on my pixel 5 when watching a movie from the Google TV app I have the same issue. I'm starting to think it's the Google TV app that's causing this.

This is happening to me as well on my Vizio P series. About every 15 minutes on every app. Haven't used the google tv app on my phone though.

I had this trouble, sometimes more frequent than 15 minutes apart. I was using an extension HDMI cable because TV connectors hard to get to. Problem went away when I connected directly to TV.

I'm having this same issue. Tried all the HDMI ports and still have the same problem.

OK, I also have a Vizio P series with the exact same issue. I love the Google TV but this black screen issue is probably going to be a deal breaker.

Same issue on Vizio P65-C1. Connected directly to HDMI port.

I don't know if you found a solution to this problem, but have you tried playing around with the display settings if there is any on the chromecast device..?

I know my Samsung 4k tv don't like 4k at 50hz or 60hz from my computer (I have to use 30hz), and my Panasonic don't want 60hz either, but 4k at 50hz works nice...

Kind regards, Oistein.

So, what worked for me is to plug in the Google TV device directly to the TV.I had it plugged in to an HDMI splitter and that's what was causing the black screens for me.

I tried the 30hz idea on my TCL and I still have the issue. I have an HDMI connector in play. I'm going to order a better cable extension to see if that helps, if not I'll try and get it behind the TV, which is hard as I do not have power there to be able to plug in the chromecast :(

I will update later with my findings.

I have a P-Series, px65-g1, and it's connected directly to the TV. Having the same problem. I love this things interface, but this is annoying. I'm considering going back to Roku at this point.

Why are my solutions always here and never on the product website. Google literally told me to unplug it and plug it back in. Nothing.

Reddit says it's a display setting. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Hi guys, found this post while having the same problem with my Vizio P65... just rebooted the Vizio (in the menus) and the problem went away. Have a good one!
