Title. It's frustrating as fuck. Why can't I just use the Stadia controller on Android TV? This is dumb. They even have bluetooth but it's intentionally disabled.

If it makes you feel any better, the Bluetooth on the Stadia controller isn't used for anything other than initial setup.
As a YouTube Premium subscriber, I was pretty excited about the free controller and Chromecast for trying out Stadia.
The setup was a nightmare, but once it was working, the gameplay was actually mostly ok. A bit of weirdness here and there. But the list of available games was abysmally small. I couldn't even find any games I wanted to try out. And I definitely can't see myself spending $10/month plus the cost of buying a game I won't actually own. Especially when a service like GeForce Now lets you play games you actually own on Steam.
The controller is actually really quite bad compared to something like a PS4 controller. And only working over WiFi is a real WTF.
I guess the free Chromecast is nice, but Chromecast with Google TV just came out and it's awesome, so I can't see myself going back to a normal Chromecast again.
I think you can plug it in via the USB-C to a USB-A cable, but you'd be tethered. Supposedly the controller works as a USB-HID compliant controller when plugged into something that way. Can't say I've gotten it to work though.
I think you guy are forgetting that the stadia controller isn't supposed work through bluetooth like all the other ones out there It connects to the wifi and only works within the stadia app as of now
Stadia app needs to be tweaked for it. Yep it's dumb but it'll come.
I've ditched mine completely.
Just made sense for me to use k&m on PC and PS5 controller on the TV, I can even use it for emulators.
Why oh why they're burning themselves over Bluetooth support is a Nintendo style mystery, but they won't get anywhere near as many diehards to put up with it.
I mean, it's a Stadia controller, not a Google controller. It'll work once it's updated.
Edit: I plugged the Stadia controller into my Android TV's USB port. Was able to control the menu just fine, and also worked with GeForce Now. Looks like they limit bluetooth on the controller, probably because it induces lag and they would rather you connect the controller to WiFi directly.
I just want to find a third party controller that isn't expensive and works with Stadia on the CCwGTV. Amazon if flush with Bluetooth controllers, but many only connect via dongle to Android devices. Im a very casual gamer, so trying to sift through the devices snd find one I feel sure will work is almost impossible.
Not being snarky, but why is this expected? It is not currently supported likely because the Stadia controller is primarily for Stadia. Android TV would generally be used in your home network so there's literally no use case that benefits Google itself.
The reason is money
It is stupid, but so is launching a new Chromecast without Stadia support while trying to onboard Stadia customers. I'm guessing it's something that got pushed back due to covid or something but supposedly it's in the pipeline. I guess we will see.
