God AndroidTV sucks.

by zonkbonkbadonk

I have three TCL Roku TV's, and went with an TCL AndroidTV for my 4th. It has no ability to recognize HDMI power off signals, it just lingers on a "No Input" error screen for 15 minutes until the sleep function kicks in. Google Home doesn't recognize it. It is there, in my list of home devices, but there are no options for it, and no amount of "Hey Google Turn off the TV" will control it. The "built in chromecast" doesn't even show up unless you manually turn the TV on first. HDMI devices do wake the TV, but instead of doing to the HDMI input it just goes to the AndroidTV home screen.

The RokuTVs do all of the above flawlessly, including a chromecast signal when the TV is off that wakes the TV.

I cannot find one single advantage AndroidTV has over Roku, what is the point of it?

Roku’s interface is ancient, the OS is locked down, and they’re consistently the last to get the newest apps or updates. Roku is junk.

My Sony works as it should.

TCL TVs suck.

Sounds like the problem is likely the TV.

This all sounds like an issue with how TCL integrated Android TV into the TV. Sorry about the problems, but none of these sound normal.

Not the first time somebody has complained about the TCL version of Android TV. If Google Home doesn't see it none of that voice stuff or casting will work.

Having similar issues as well! Hopefully they fix them soon! I also have Roku Tvs and interact with my Google home ecosystem smoothly. I wish Google's native products would fluidly work with each other!
