Google TV has an app for PBS and Youtube has PBS (same for many networks). What is the difference?

I am confused by the difference between the apps on Google TV and the Services on YouTube TV.

The above example is for PBS, but I have the same question for ABC, CBS, HGTV, etc. T

Can someone describe what the difference in what the media content or service is: between an G.tv app and YT.tv service? Why would I want an App, if I already have a channel from my existing service provider.

YTTV carries the local live network affiliates plus what ever VOD the networks provide YTTV users. The apps, considered, TV Anywhere, offer free VOD as provided by the networks and some offer a live stream of your Local affiliate if you have a provider like cable, satellite, or YTTV. One advantage is TV Anywhere gives another uncounted stream for YTTV subscibers.
