What is the cheapest 4k android box with Ethernet port that can specifically play x264 codec 4k vids at 60fps?

by PillCosbyz

I bought a mibox about year ago thinking it could play all any 4k vids through kodi. I recently added some 4k 60fps vids to my library and noticed they’re slow/all out of sync. Through some research even the mibox site states “x264 4k up to 30fps” And “x265 4k up to 60fps” so it’s my fault for not knowing about codecs before buying. I thought all 4k was the same. even tested this cut a piece of my vid 1 minute 100 mb file converted the 1 minute original x264 to x265 and sure enough the x265 played flawlessly, while the x264 sucks. So what Im looking for now is a android box that can play x264 4k 60fps right out the box, what are my options?

How about Chromecast w/ GoogleTV and use the ethernet-power supply ?

Cheap way: Buy amazon firestick 4k and hub with ethernet port. Install plex, mx player, kodi or vlc whatever you want. Optional: Unlock the bootloader and install debloated android tv rom. It is way better than those xiaomi mi tv devices.

Your issue is they’re slow and out of sync and your question is what’s the cheapest?

If the mibox s plays x265 content at 60fps, it is a waste of money buying something else. If you need ethernet just buy an usb dongle.

x265 offers same image quality at about half the size, it is probably supported by every camera you brought in the last few years. It is a better idea to convert your library to x265 (or redownload your Linux isos).

Everyone here tells you to buy the nvidia shield without asking where you live. In some countries you could buy 4 or 5 mibox s or chromecast (the new model) for the price of one shield.

Edit: Did you check using another video player (like vlc) or the new kodi beta?

I've tried a few cheap options, end of the day they all fall short in some annoying way. Save some time and money and just enjoy your 1080p or go straight for the shield. Half measures just don't cut it with 4k.

I don't think it's the cheapest option, but I would upgrade my mibox to an nVIDIA Shield TV . It's a safe bet compared to an anonymous Chinese brand android tv box as an alternative to the mibox s.

I'd simply recode the "affected" files to x265. But that's just me!

Nvidia shield would be your best bet. Guaranteed you wont have any issues.
