Why is android tv remote app for iOS so terrible?

by kyokans

I’ve been dealing with this for years. The Android tv remote app for iOS always loses connection to the tv. Maybe I’ll get a good 20-30 seconds of use. Then the problems start. Then I have to wait to reconnect or even close the app and reopen. No other app or device in the house has this problem. Anyone else experienced anything like this and know of a fix? My regular remote requires line of sight to the tv. Since that can be tricky cuz of my setup, the app is just better....when it works.

I have both iOS and Android devices. I can confirm the Android remote is terrible on both platforms. My best guess is the person originally wrote the app on their “20%” time, but has been bored of it for a few years and is doing something else.

For iOS, I use a 3rd party app called “Universal Remote “ or something like that in addition to the Google app. (It’s good for turning the tv on/off, and other things like adjusting the volume )

Who makes the app? The TV vendor or a third party? What TV?

Frankly, I'm not surprised if a company that has a bunch of Android developers doesn't do IOS apps as well.

As an aside, I've been using the Logitech Harmony Hub (and companion remote) and it works marvelously for all my home theatre devices (TiVO, Sony, Roku, Vizio). It doesn't require line of sight either.
