Philips TV not loading BBC iPlayer/itv hub

by helyeah

Hi everyone!

UK specific question here; just got a Philips 4K TV in the January sales and I'm in love with it, however today I went to watch something on BBC iPlayer and the app wouldn't load, just had a loading circle which changed to a black screen. Tried ITV hub and 4OD which do the same thing, but apps like Netflix and Disney+ loaded just fine. Already tried pulling the plug/restarting, clearing internet memory and install and then uninstalling updates for it, so I'm a bit stumped!

Hope someone can help!

Also have a Phillips TV that does the same thing. Found reconnecting to WiFi sorts it out.

I have the same issue, ITV people on twitter told me it doesn't work with all devices yet. They said they are working very hard to increase reach of ITV Hub so that all of their viewers are able to access their great programmes. They said due to the number of platforms available, they can't currently cover them all. They also suggested clearing the cached data from my device (android tv) and try again if I had the app installed.

I have the same issue. I have been switching from Static IP to Dynamic resolves the issue for a few days. Then when it stops again, I switch back.

There must be a simple and permanent fix... someone....?

I'm on Vodafone broadband and have wondered if it's resolvable with a change to the router settings.

This has started happening to me. I've hard resetted once and it sorted it out fine, but its happened again.

We were watching iPlayer via the built in app, and I think we accidentally hit the SkyQ remote which booted us out of the app. We reopened the app and we are getting the loading wheel followed by 'Playback Failed'. This goes across all TV app (iPlayer, All4, ITV Hub) but not paid for tv services (Netflix, Prime).

We have updated the TV Updated the apps Turned it off and on Un plugged and re plugged. The only solution so far is to factory reset the TV.

If anyone has the answer to the TV fix please advise. I'm not interested in 'get a fire stick' or 'but an extra bit of kit' as I paid for the TV and I want it to work.

Do you have a PiHole or AdGuard running in your network? I've found they block by default an address needed for the iPlayer android TV app despite it working fine on the regular android app. Whitelisting the server fixed it for me.

I have the same issue. All with iplayer, it hub, all4 and my5. Not sure if it's a coincidence that they were pre loaded on the TV. Everything else works fine.

This is a continuous known fault with Philips Amblight TV I have experienced over a year. Called technical helpdesk so many times never got anywhere. Always stating for software updates, Do a hard reset so all the apps needs to reloaded, tv channels signalled.....then it works but then happens again

****Best Advice *** Buy a Amazon Firestick, even better Roku Stick etc.....as an external HDMI device....then all the online channels including BBC Iplayer, ITV Hub, 4 OD etc, fully works without any issues.

I bought Philips Ambilight last week, and have exactly the same issue. BBC iPlayer, 4OD, My5 wont work but Netflix etc works fine. If they cannot fix it, I will return it, I love the Ambilight though.

No. Not using sat or terra aerial. BBC iPlayer , ITV etc started working after a week, with no change to settings or anything. Did not see an auto update either.

Hi. I just experienced this problem on a 48OLED806. I had switched off HBBTV tracking and cookies in the settings. As soon As I re-enabled them iPlayer started working again. I Google’s hbbtv and iPlayer and the articles suggested you must have hbbtv running.

I have a Philips Amilight TV and the same issue with iPlayer. Any solution?

I tried all the fixes and still no success. Anything else I can try? Maybe to reinstall the TV?
