Nokia 8000 vs. Nvidia Shield TV (Tube)

by kos90

Good day,

I'm considering buying a new streaming device, but I'm seriously in doubt which is the better choice.

Both:

  • Remote with Backlight (important!)
  • Ethernet

Nokia:

  • Cheaper (99€ vs 160€) -Android 10
  • Old processor?

Nvidia:

  • More powerful?
  • Can control other devices via IR

I mainly use the box for Streaming Netflix (1080p), as a Plex Player (not server) and for some casual Splitscreen gaming using BT-Gamepads with friends, i.e Mario Kart and similar.

Any suggestions? Especially if the Nvidia gets an Android 10 update?

//Edit: Despite many suggested the Shield Pro rather the Tube, I went for it and couldn't be happier. Great experience and I love the remote to control my AV Receiver and TV all together.

Nvidia is likely going to skip 10 & go right to Android 11 on the Shields, like they've done in the past.

Fwiw any android tv box will do what you want.

I use the Nexus Player for 1080 netflix, game streaming, etc. Never had a problem.

The Shield supports Dolby Vision and Atmos, not YouTube 4K HDR.

The Nokia doesn't support both Dolby but does YT 4K HDR.

Just get the nvidia shield pro and have the best don't bother with the shield tube or the nokia.
