I'm a big speedwatcher of movies and shows so I am wondering if there is a way to install some sort of extension or something that will let me change the playback speed on the tv.

For general videos, MX Player has a speed setting and if you're watching Youtube, you can download SmartTube Next which has a speed setting for watching Youtube videos.
Otherwise I don't think you could just universally speed up videos.
